Le Week-end

4

My trip to Arcachon seems like weeks ago. Since then, I have become more familiar with my neighborhood, and I’m planning where else in Bordeaux I want to explore and where I want to venture to outside the city. I am working diligently to improve my French and that means actually talking to people other than my tutor, Nathalie. Yikes! As I said my first session with her, “Je fais de mon mieux.” (I am doing my best.)

I did get out and about this weekend to browse shops, buy groceries, and hop on the tram to discover new areas like Le Lac, a quartier (neighborhood) north of Bordeaux city center on the left bank of the Garonne River featuring a 400-acre lake, ecological reserve, hiking trails, lively recreational area, modern live-work housing, restaurants and cafes, and a 18-hole golf course. It’s an area where most of the high tech businesses are located.

It seems to officially be autumn because the rain has started. Just like that. It cleared up on Sunday so I made my way to Marché des Capucins, Bordeaux‘s largest indoor market bursting with over 80 stalls that showcase an incredible selection of local and international foods, and outside an impressive array of street vendors.

So much to choose from and a bit overwhelming for me. But I did bring home some of my favorites. I vow to return next Sunday.
