Made it to Broadway!

4

Broadway is a quaint, historical village often referred to as the “gateway” to The Cotswolds, a huge area – almost 800 square miles – that runs through the counties of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Wiltshire and Worcestershire (more info). The areas and villages vary, each have their own personality but they all have the “wolds” or the rolling hills. The Cotswolds have more than 3,000 miles of footpaths and bridleways to explore, ancient woodlands and wildflower meadows with 4,000 miles of historic Cotswold stone walls dividing up the landscape.

The name Broadway comes from the description of its wide main road which today is known as High Street. It really is the quintessential English country village with 16th century cottages constructed from the local Cotswold honey-colored stone. How did I end up here? A friend recommended it to get the authentic English village experience and, yes, because it is Broadway.

Lola’s Cottage, my Broadway abode; front view and back view

Sights in the village: Broadway village green still with Queen Elizabeth’s jubilee decorations, meandering through town, the gardens truly are magnificent

Scenes from my adventure on the Public Footpaths: maneuvering through gates, wandering on pastureland, making new friends, a spot to rest regardless what side of the fence you are on, the pathway back to the heart of the village

My pathway back to Lola’s Cottage

All for now.
